Things I Find While Walking Around

When walking often I wonder how the hell I didn’t notice certain things before. This is one of those cases. The shop is in Euston Station and as the shop clearly states there is a website for it called http://transformationshops.co.uk/ here is a quote from the website:

“Transformation shops offer transvestites, crossdressers, transsexuals and transgendered a safe heaven ,discreet , confidential and truly feminine personal transvestite shopping experience, as well as providing a he to she make over transformation service for transvestites.”

Very interesting. I would love to know how such a store got started and I wonder if anyone doing pantomime also pop into such a store.

Also in Waterloo there is also this massive camera.

My first reaction was to find out if any of the buttons work fortunately a brave 5 year old answered this question for me unfortunately the answer is no.

Google has taken over my life!

Prior to working for SKK lighting I used i-Google. I mostly use it as a one stop shop for writing down quick notes and also keeping all my web tabs in one place. I find it useful and its nice to know that no matter where I go my own custom homepage is easily accessible. It’s almost like taking a piece of home with you.

Later on I discovered Google Docs it works out to be pretty neat. While working at SKK I would hop from one computer to another and not give a dam about losing my work because it was all in one solid place online. In fact the only issue I had was getting used to constantly switching between different keyboard layouts.

Google calendar then enters my life I first used it to remember birthdays and also exams dates and it works out well there is no need for additional software and it with me where ever I go even at one point I was using Google with a friend so we could both edit our details on a document together.

Now I work for SKK lighting and I'm getting pummelled by E-mails and my instant reaction is that I need a web address purely dedicated to dealing with this. Normally I use a Hotmail account but that's for my more personal stuff. So I thought I have an old Google account that I'm not really using lets use that and then an odd thing happened. I noticed that it was actually quite good! It condenses your chains of E-mails on one topic into more manageable click-able chunks and most of it is quite intuitive. Even though now I have a dedicated SKK address I still use G-mail for dealings with clients because I hate the notion of having to set up outlook to let me see my mail and already I have so many contact that shifting them over would be a hassle.

Event the contacts I'm now gathering are almost automatically being categorised for me into a contact sheet which I love simply because now I am getting more organised.

Finally I find on g-mail a "to do" list today which now happily resides in the corner of my G-mail screen and I just discovered that today. I'm quite uncertain how Google is making money out of me because I don't click any of their adverts so in my mind Google is helping me do work by getting money from other people.

Yes Google has eaten my life and I know that if Google wanted to they could get a pretty darn good picture of what I've been up to but the honest fact is that I am OK with that. I'm not telling Goggle about my dealings in sex drugs or rock-n-roll and the good thing about massive companies like Google is that they can't do anything stupid without getting a massive backlash from the global community and any action Google does is under massive scrutiny.

It is not like I’m only using Google products because it's there. I will happily do my research when dealing with software and a prime example is with Flickr who I am currently paying £20 a year to them simply because i take a lot of photos and they allow unlimited uploads for a year and allow me to organise my work. Picasa which is Google's equivalent just doesn't do it as well and I am now looking at Wordpress and wondering if it is the way to go.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Google will shape people’s lives in the future. While I have used Google for easily 7 years most of its offshoots I have only used within the last 3. So I expect more things to come about from it and not just from Google but from its rivals as well who try and innovate new ways of interacting with the net and I will look forward to seeing it.

P.S
I am aware of the mild hint of irony that I’m writing this up to be placed on a Blogspot website in fact I think I made my Google account because I wanted a Blogspot account.

In the President’s Secret Service by Ronald Kessler

Ever since I was in GCSE and got taught about the Cold War I couldn’t help but be intruded by politics. Politics is quite possibly the closest you could get me to gossip and this book is about three quarters gossip and one quarter doom and gloom but even the doom and gloom is gossipy.
But first onto the cool gossipy stuff. The Secret Service has ultimately one job and that is to protect the president this means that they have to deal with the presidents off camera. During this time we learn the following.

John Kennedy slept around in a BIG way
Lyndon Johnson was often drunk and rude
Richard Nixon was just strange and his wife was constantly drunk
Gerald ford was a cheap git.

And the list goes on…

While some of it is old news to me some of these are surprising simply because how stupid some of the people they are protecting are. As you go through the rest of the book it starts to introduce a new theme of how the secrete service is slowly getting stretched and under funded and cutting corners so that it risks the very people they aim to protect and to be honest is a bit of a downer and by the end of it you realise that this book has a duel agenda. To make you care for the Secret Service but also expose the flaws to hopefully show congress that the Secret Service needs help.
Anyway if you love political gossip and like those quirky stories about the president that make your realise that as influential they may be the president is only human then this is the book for you, but it comes with a warning the bitching becomes possibly a bit repetitive.

After Effects of this book.
  • You may start to talk about past presidents anecdotes in convocations with friends who may not appreciate it.
  • Because I bought the hard back version of this book (as a treat to myself) I’m half tempted to throw away the tacky paper cover and place it bare on the book shelf so my library looks a bit more classy.

Steal This Book

This book want to start a revolution. On its day of print caused a riot with critics at the time saying that will be end free speech. This was in the 70s though it's 40 years old yet the old and the age shows.

There are 3 reasons why I like this book.

1 Is the science freak in me who wants to try out the Molotov cocktail to see the explosion

2 Is the mini historian inside me who is fascinated by anything from the Cold War era and would like to compare the techniques used then and if it could be applied to today's world.

3 Is the very small hint of an anarchist who likes to know that if in a riot what helmet to wear and also a comprehensive chart of how to deal with different types of riot sprays.

The book is compelling yet by the end you end up flicking through some of the pages simply because its just reams of contact lists for different towns and places. Which I would love to track down and see if they work.

Also if you wanted to know I didn't actually steal the book because I thought it would be ironic to actually go against the advice of the book.

Elephants on Acid and other bizarre experiments.

The book is a colourful look at some of the most bizarre experiments in history. Its loaded with experiments throughout the ages. Ranging from the morbid to the just simply silly. Some of the experiments seems like common sense but its nice to know that the guys in white lab coats are out there checking and confirming these result especially when you find that the results aren't quite what you thought they would be.

This book does however has a draw back it will for the next few days after reading this it will make you totally unwanted at dinner conversation as you blurt out facts about two headed dogs and how the male turkeys will show mating rituals to a female turkey but also show the same reactions to a female turkey's head on a stick. You will also have the urge to try out some of the experiments yourself on your friends which may get you in trouble as well.

A nice touch to the whole book is that like every good scientific book it references showing how to track the original documents. Which is admittedly is information erotica but its nice to know that if I wanted to track the original papers on synchronising mensurations I could quite easily.

It is also worthy of noting that if you wanted a lighter fluffier version of this book I would recommend The Book of General Ignorance which is made by the writers of my favourite TV show QI. So try QI and then move to this book they both share the same layout but I will say that Elephants on acid will gross you out more.

lots of space, prime location, good transport links....

She has to be stopped

Violation 1. You do not go on the tube with a fan and use it while looking grumpy
Violation 2. You do not look dress like your from the 50s and look grumpy
Violation 3. You don’t use a plain coloured fan. In my world all fans are mildly ornate in some regard.

(i think the woman next to her spotted me taking the photo)

Woof Woof Woofity Woof

1st thought… Wow that’s odd
2nd thought… Does that affect performance?
3rd thought… Why am I caring about performance?! It's a woolly car dog thing!

Roller Skating

He was not moving very fast. In fact I don't think he was certain what he was doing. The 281 bus was not happy.

Sorry Boris but I think we are still drinking on your buses

When getting off my bus I saw this. I was surprised that it hasn’t fallen forward and rolled along the floor. It was also empty (I checked). Also I found it mildly humorous to see this randomly on a bus.

They Hunt in Packs

Saw this while panic buying milk for emergency office coffee. i think they were all were all walking out from the Holiday Inn. Clearly there must have been a cleaning convention near by. (link)

New Photo (Igloo)

one of the cool things about where i work is simply the walk to and from work. I don't think i ever take the short way home and just go the wrong way just so I can explore london a bit further. Today's pic is of the shop Igloo on Bermondsey St.
my biggest weakness is cool t-shirts and at some point i will have to buy or print this T-shirtbut either way i found this lovley link that shows some epic examples and also here is somthing slighly off topic but just as cool

It's all her fault

She reminded me how much fun it is to blog. So much so that I think that will start doing more regular updates. We will see how it goes.
